VIRGINIA CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
43rd Season

David Grandis, Music Director

Message from the VCO President

November, 2011

The Virginia Chamber Orchestra’s 41st year is well underway. We had the first musicale at the beautiful home of Robin Phillips in McLean. It included a wine tasting before the rendition of some Beethoven selections by the Sunshine Quartet. The event made for a good start in our fundraising efforts for the coming season.

Speaking of fundraising, an e-mail went out to about 500 people who attend our concerts and other events, for financial support to keep the music playing. It is a fact that concert audiences only provide about 10% of the cost of producing any given concert. That is why we need revenue from other sources, such as grants and musicales, to make up the difference. If you would like to support the orchestra with a contribution that will lower your taxes, please send your gift to the Virginia Chamber Orchestra, P.O. Box 7484, Alexandria, VA 22307-7484.

At the October meeting of the orchestra’s board of trustees, we welcomed two new people with promising credentials. Betty Baird joined the VCO Board of Trustees and Bill Porter became our new Legal Counsel

And our first concert of the season, on Sunday, 24 October, was a wonderful recital of Mozart favorites. It played to a full house. The next event to look forward to is the Winter Concert on Sunday, February 19, 2012, at 4 PM, with Emil de Cou conducting. It will feature the Holberg Suite by Grieg and selections from Mozart, Vivaldi, and Tchaikovsky. Mark your calendars!
